Danbo in Tas!

In which C’s twin bro Dan meets us in Tasmania! He takes immediately to living in a van (/tent) and we spend two weeks together in a flurry of rock climbing, hiking, beer drinking, beaching and meandering. And it’s awesome. How awesome? Check the photos:

D climbs Tasmania. Cataract Gorge, Launceston. True story of  backpacking Tasmania: After a long day of climbing, we take a chilly sunset dip in the river, surreptitiously bringing our bars of soap along and changing in the underbrush. Moments later, D discovers a posh amenities block, complete with warm showers and change rooms.

J spends the whole two weeks feeding us so well it’s ridiculous. And every day for lunch, we have delicious picnics of fresh veggies, bread with our Margaret River olive oil, local cheeses, and other goodness.

Also in Tasmania: regular stops for the best oysters ever! We do this pretty much every other day.

A peacock contemplates Leeland. D sees an impressive amount of Australian wildlife, including wallabies, pademelons, possums, echidnas, all sorts of parrots and other birds, and penguins, one of which almost runs into us during our great nighttime beach penguin stakeout on Bruny Island.

  1. Wow, what fun! There seems to be a large banana slug stuck onto the back of Dan’s neck in pic #5… I love the new int’l VPK standard of measurement. Where have you been that has the highest VPK? What does pademelon mean? Love, Dad
